1994 1993 'East meets West' - The Cotton Connection/Peace Mantra 1993.Description 1.5. metres square wall piece, made from cotton that had been grown in Narrabri and processed by the Bemboka Paper Mill, near Bega, embedded with cotton buds and treated with dyes and finishes. Each panel is joined with cotton fabric. This piece is a celebration of different cultures weaving together. The kimino was chosen as a symbol of the Eastern connection, and married with the versatile and universal fibre of cotton. The cotton buds simulate a weave that represents the warp and weft of the human race. On a local level it is a connection between Bega in the east and Narrabri in the west. The peace sign is from the I Ching and along with the Yin and Yang is representative of China, a prolific user of the cotton fibre. |
