The following work was completed between 1998 and 1999, and consists of paper clay slab technique using raku firing. The raku firing technique appeals to me because of it's immediacy from 950 degrees to hand held in 20 minutes. It comprises the four elements of earth, fire, air and water, in the process from start to finish.
The following 3 pieces were made for the Carnival Ware Exhibition, (as part of TAFE Mudlarks Exhibition 1999 Old Bega Hospital) based on Carnival Glass, using lustre glazes. From the first time I saw an oil slick in a puddle, I have been addicted to lustres. The glazes used on these pieces are Red Glass, and my own Bell Frog Green.
